Here’s a special festive edition of the UK Scriptwriters Podcast where me and Tim speak at length with comedy writer/script editor Andrew Ellard. Andrew talks about his career and shares his insights about the craft of comedy, as well as sharing his Top 5 Tips For Sitcoms. It’s a must listen!
Also, here’s a short film I made exactly three years ago (22nd Dec 2011) with the good folk at White Lantern Film. It’s called After School Club, a fun visually-driven piece about two under-appreciated mums who escape to the woods to liven up their domestic routine.
A few key things from this shoot:
– The script by Nell Denton has only 1 line of dialogue, and it won Best Script at the Southern Script Festival.
– My regret/mistake was not shooting the fight scene first. Good lesson learned: on extra short shoots, prioritise the highlight.
– The film stars local talent Sarah Collinge, Tracie Redding, Nell’s kids & a brief cameo from a wild-haired Rohan Gotobed (young Sirius Black). It was shot by Elliot Trent and edited by Ryan Prout.
– It was a one-day shoot on the shortest day of the year. I would have liked more time to do certain bits but, all in all, good fun. We shot night for day in the kitchen.
So that just about wraps up the blog for 2014. Thanks for sticking with the site relocation and everything, and as ever, if you have any questions or suggestions for posts, feel free to email!
MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR!
I have never entered a floating comment before! Am quite excited and a little bit scared. That aside, thanks for this post – I know that I am guilty of being wildly over ambitious when it comes to writing resolutions (30 pages a day! A screenplay a week! Finishing that outstanding project YESTERDAY!) so it’s a good reminder to focus on resolutions that I have a home of humanly achieving!
